Job Position : Auto Mechanic – Garage
Location : Qatar
Contract : 2 Years
Job Purpose :
The Auto Mechanic – Garage is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of heavy equipment in the Garage section, which includes slag dumpers, forklifts, man lifts, and transmission units. The role involves carrying out both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, such as inspections, overhauls, and repairs, to ensure that all equipment is in proper working condition and meets operational standards. The mechanic’s primary objective is to ensure that all equipment functions efficiently and is available for production needs.
This role requires the execution of maintenance activities based on a predefined schedule and following the supervisor’s instructions. Additionally, the Auto Mechanic must perform emergency repairs and troubleshoot mechanical issues as they arise to minimize downtime and maintain the smooth operation of the plant. The mechanic will be responsible for identifying and addressing defects or malfunctions in the equipment, conducting thorough inspections, and ensuring all repairs are carried out in compliance with safety and operational standards.
By ensuring the proper functioning of all equipment, the Auto Mechanic plays a crucial role in meeting production requirements and minimizing disruptions to the manufacturing process.
Job Responsibilities :
Technical Operations and Maintenance
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including overhauling heavy equipment like slag dumpers, forklifts, man lifts, and transmission units as per the maintenance schedule.
- Apply maintenance quality programs to ensure smooth operation of Garage equipment and optimal equipment health.
- Assess equipment defects to determine whether repairs or replacements are necessary for the continuous operation of the plant and equipment at minimal cost.
- Inspect and identify defects in equipment, ensuring compliance with operational standards.
- Diagnose and repair equipment emergencies or unscheduled failures to ensure equipment availability for operational needs.
- Report abnormal findings to senior colleagues to plan future maintenance activities and implement corrective measures.
- Communicate clearly with technicians on the next shift regarding ongoing maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment status to ensure a seamless handover.
- Reduce vehicle downtime and accelerate maintenance by implementing efficient processes.
- Follow HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) rules and procedures, reporting concerns and incidents promptly.
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)
- Strictly adhere to the company’s HSE rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain safety and compliance.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance practices.
Related Assignments
- Undertake additional tasks assigned by management or supervisors as required.
Qualifications : Technical School Graduate or Trade Certificate in a relevant field.
Minimum Experience : 2–4 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a steel plant or related heavy equipment environment.
Job Specific Skills :
- Strong knowledge of heavy mobile equipment and maintenance processes, preferably in a steel plant.
- Hands-on experience in inspecting and maintaining heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of operating and safety procedures and standards.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- English language proficiency (written and spoken).
- Basic computer skills for maintenance logging and reporting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of Qatar and GCC culture and working environments.
