Job Position : Chemist
Location : Qatar
Contract : 2 Years
Job Purpose :
To receive, prepare, and carry out testing of quality control samples from production units and provide quick and accurate test data in PMMS/ERP and to the production team to ensure conformance to quality standards
Job Responsibilities :
Quality Lab Testing Operation:
- Ensure collection or receipt (as appropriate) and preparation of samples for testing or analysis, ensuring that collection and preparation methods strictly comply with set procedures.
- Perform chemical analysis of samples, by automated and/or bench testing methods, ensuring that testing procedures and methods are strictly followed.
- Record test results, perform standard data analysis, and record all data in specified logbooks, check sheets, or PMMS systems according to set operating procedures. Maintain other documentation in line with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO/IEC 17025 to ensure all records are accurate and up to date.
- Report test results to the relevant department, ensuring results are clearly communicated within the required timescales to inform production decision-making.
- Perform non-routine tests on special samples, proficiency testing programs, and/or competitor products as requested to support production and commercial decision-making.
- Prepare standard chemical solutions for testing reference materials, ensuring that preparation methods are strictly followed to ensure reliable analytical results.
- Cross-check sample results, with the aid of reference samples, between chemists and/or test equipment according to set schedules and procedures to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of tests. Maintain results of CRM material analysis in an Excel datasheet for statistical analysis.
- Carry out regular calibration/standardization of test equipment as per schedule and record results (backed up in the server) to ensure ongoing test accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct blind testing (with results stored for statistical analysis) on calibrated test equipment, using reference samples, to ensure reproducibility of analysis across all chemists.
- Perform routine inspections, adjustments, checks, and cleaning of test equipment to maintain ongoing test accuracy and reliability.
- Perform routine, on-the-job equipment maintenance and minor repairs. Identify and communicate other maintenance/repair needs to the Senior/Plant Supervisor for further communication with the Engineering & Maintenance Department.
- Communicate clearly with analysts on the next shift about current testing activities, equipment operation, and conditions to ensure proper handover with full and clear information, updating log sheets. In case of any abnormalities, communicate effectively and timely with superiors.
- Participate in safety meetings, company safety patrols, desktop exercises, monthly HSE safety patrols, fire drills, and environmental audits to ensure that any HSE issues are addressed and corrective actions are taken.

- Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
- Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation of timely and accurate statements and reports to meet department requirements, policies, and quality standards.
Quality, Health, Safety & Environment:
- Comply with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
- Report all safety incidents, including near misses and unsafe acts, to HSE. Implement the work permit system, HIRA, and housekeeping activities including 5S in labs.
Related Assignments:
- Perform other related duties or assignments as directed by superiors.
Qualifications : Science Graduate/Diploma in Chemical Engineering.
Minimum Experience : Minimum 3 years of relevant laboratory work experience.
Job Specific Skills :
- Complete knowledge and understanding of test equipment, methods, and procedures in the chemist’s area.
- Complete knowledge of operating and safety procedures and standards.
- Well-developed analytical capability.
- Attention to detail regarding safety, environmental, and operational practices.
- Ability to consistently perform work with accuracy and precision.
- Ability to perform repeat testing activities to consistent standards.
- Competent in ISO 17025 testing laboratory requirements.
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint & MS Teams).
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- English language skills – written and spoken.
