Job Position : Senior Technician – Hydraulic
Location : Qatar
Contract : 2 Years
Job Purpose :
To implement hydraulic maintenance activities to ensure that technical operations are carried out efficiently and effectively, maintaining uninterrupted production. The Senior Technician assists in overall shift operations and coordinates with the Qatar Steel operations team when needed. This role involves carrying out both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, installing, maintaining, adjusting, calibrating, and testing plant and equipment to ensure compliance with operating standards, ensuring equipment availability to meet production requirements.
Job Responsibilities :
Maintenance Technical Activities :
- Execute technical activities in the hydraulic mechanical section, ensuring the effective execution of the maintenance plan.
- Comply with assigned duties to maintain equipment efficiently and safely.
- Analyze issues and decide if hydraulic equipment should be repaired or replaced to support plant efficiency at optimal cost.
- Implement planned and unplanned maintenance shutdowns and troubleshoot hydraulic system equipment to minimize plant downtime.
- Participate in daily shift meetings to ensure awareness of all shift activities and events.
- Address technical maintenance issues promptly to maintain continuous operation.
- Inspect equipment and identify defects, deciding on temporary or permanent repairs to ensure proper functioning.
- Inspect maintenance tools and equipment to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Prepare job lists for the Supervisor/Engineer for inclusion in the planned shutdown schedule.
- Coordinate with Supervisors/Senior Technicians of other departments to ensure timely and effective job completion.
- Communicate maintenance and equipment issues to other departments for coordination.
- Guide the assessment of defects and determine the best repair method for optimal cost efficiency.
- Support the hydraulic mechanical maintenance team in handling unscheduled emergencies, diagnoses, and repairs.
Data Recording and Analysis :
- Analyze hydraulic system inspections and record data in log sheets according to operating procedures for PPM analysis.
- Maintain a history of hydraulic equipment exchanges to ensure effective preventive maintenance and failure analysis.
- Prepare regular and special reports as required to assist in data analysis and performance optimization.
Reporting :
- Report abnormal observations to senior colleagues to ensure appropriate corrective actions or future maintenance planning.
- Communicate with the incoming shift team about ongoing maintenance activities, ensuring a smooth handover with full information.
Health, Safety & Environment :
- Implement corrective actions based on incident investigations to reduce future risks.
- Follow relevant safety, health, and environmental procedures and report any concerns to maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintain an HSE safety patrol, fire drills, and environmental audits to ensure awareness of safety and environmental issues.
- Report near misses or unsafe conditions.
Policies, Processes, and Procedures :
- Maintain logs, check sheets, drawings, and other documentation in line with ISO45001, ISO14001, and ISO9001 requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, processes, and standard operating procedures in the hydraulic mechanical section for effective operations.
Related Assignments :
- Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.
Qualifications : Technical Diploma or Trade Test certification from a recognized professional body.
Minimum Experience : 4–5 years of relevant work experience in the maintenance and overhaul of hydraulic equipment.
Job Specific Skills :
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, equipment, and processes in steel plants.
- Ability to interpret hydraulic circuit diagrams and symbols.
- Understanding of operating and safety procedures and standards.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Proficient in problem-solving and troubleshooting.
- Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Technical report writing skills.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken), Arabic preferred.
- Understanding of Qatar and GCC culture and work environment.
