Job Description
Job Position : Tundish Repairman
Location : Qatar
Contract : 2 Years
Job Purpose :
To demolish or remove worn or damaged refractory materials, and to reline or repair refractory materials at various facilities, such as Tundish, covers, slag box, steel pots, rolling mills, lime plants, and any other refractory areas as required. To operate the necessary refractory machinery and tools.
Job Responsibilities :
Technical Operations:
- Follow and implement verbal or written instructions from the supervisor, using the necessary materials and tools to carry out the required refractory work.
- Ensure the appropriate refractory machinery is in good operational condition before use, such as mixing machines, brick cutting machines, rammers, refractory tools, spray machines, continuous mixer machines, remote/pendent cranes, and slings.
- Receive new or used equipment such as Tundish, covers, steel pots, rolling mills, lime plants, and ancillary units from operations. Keep them in appropriate stands or designated places, and allow them to cool to room temperature. Provide cooling equipment like air blowers as required. After cooling, demolish the used refractory, dust, slag, and steel skulls, and clean them. Relocate them to the appropriate place and receive equipment in the EAF, deltas, ladles covers, settling chamber, and other areas.
- Perform repairs or relining (when instructed by the shift supervisor) with the appropriate type of refractory bricks and castable as per standard drawings or provided designs. If necessary, place dryers on tundish or covers for drying. Set and align templates for vibrating ladles/tundish molds as required. Hot repairs are also part of the work in Tundish, covers, steel pots, rolling mills, lime plants, and other areas while following safe working practices. Be ready to work in the EAF, deltas, ladles covers, settling chamber, and other areas.
- After completing the job, clean all machines, tools, and work areas.
- Communicate clearly with the technicians on the next shift about the current activities, equipment operations, and conditions to ensure proper handover with full and clear information.
- Communicate with production and/or maintenance personnel to execute maintenance plans without affecting production schedules, ensuring operations continue without production losses.
- Collect and finalize operation data, transferring it to clerical support for measuring, controlling, and reporting refractory activity.

Related Assignments:
- Perform other related duties or assignments as directed by the line manager.
Qualifications : Technical diploma in a relevant field.
Minimum Experience :
- 3 years of experience in steelmaking plant and process operation.
- Manufacturing/steel industry experience is preferred.

- Proficiency in English.
- Specialist skills and knowledge in the relevant area and general knowledge of the entire section.
- Full understanding of plant and process specifications and parameters.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of safety, environmental, and quality procedures and standards.
- Knowledge and understanding of process calculations and computations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents.
